I'm Sonaal nee Sonyaa!

In a nutshell,here's a short bio about me and my works!

Educational Qualifications:

-Master's Degree in Mass Communication & Journalism, University of Mumbai

-Bachelors Degree in Computer Applications,Kurukshetra University

-Stood second in class in the Russian Certificate course,University of Mumbai.

Work Experience:

- I have over eight years experience in television,print and new media.

- During my work experience I've had the opportunity to work in television both in front and behind the camera namely in the departments of production, casting, ideation, conceptualization, anchoring and reporting.

- Researched and wrote a dissertation on "Portrayal of women in Hindi Cinema"  as a part of my semester exams for the Masters degree.

- I started my career with Doordarshan,India's largest National Broadcaster as a Production Assistant.

- Later on, I freelanced with Doordarshan when I had an opportunity to work in Mike Pandey's documentary, "Fashion -Now and Forever" as a Research Assistant and Creative Supervisor.

- I also had an opportunity to face the camera when I anchored three episodes in English for Doordarshan in their programmes namely -"The National Programme of Dance" and "The National Programme of Music". 

- I was chosen by an ad filmmaker from TBWA to act in a short film "The Foreigner"

- In 2011,I was chosen as "Dove's Next Fresh Face" and interviewed for an advertorial in Femina (India's leading women magazine)

- In 2011, my short feature (duration 3 minutes) on the Rock Garden of Chandigarh title-"The Rock of Ages..." was among the 30 finalists for the "India Is Global Video Challenge" in association with the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs,India

- Early 2012, I directed my first short film (11 minutes),titled "The Other Side..."

- In March 2013, I participated in the "Pepsi Shot60" contest that was written, filmed and edited in just 24 hours!

- In April, 2013, I participated in the Mozilla FirefoxFlicks contest titled, "Power of M"

- In 2013,I participated in the crowd-sourcing contest-Create a TV commercial for Freelancer.com titled,"Everyone's Boss'y"

- I was part of a global documentary titled,"Softwaring Hard" in the capacity of Unit Producer and Second Unit Director/ Assistant Director which was shot in 11 countries and across 6 continents. Softwaring Hard was released on 31st May 2014

Hobbies:

- In my spare time,I enjoy writing short stories, penning poems, revisiting classics, landmark films of world cinema as well as the latest! And yes indeed,I enjoy blogging and tweeting too! :)

- I love playing games! Don't take that quite literally! ;) My favorite outdoor sport is swimming, skating, badminton, throw-ball and volley-ball. 

- Among the indoor games, I love playing Carrom Board, Monopoly, Scrabble and Yushino (This new game is a mathematical version of Scrabble!).
